Semblanza Dr. Gonzalo Castañeda has two bachelor degrees in Applied Mathematics (1977) and in Economics (1983) from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). After that, he got his Master (1986) and Ph.D degrees (1988) in Economics from Cornell University. Between August 1988 and May 2007, he was a full time professor in the Economics Department at the Universidad de las Américas-Puebla (UDLAP), where he was also Head of the Department during 6 years. Castañeda became an associate researcher at El Colegio de México in June 2007, where he also was member of the Center for Economic Studies from 2010 to 2012. He is currently a professor-researcher in the Economic Division of the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Economica (CIDE). He is also an active member of the National Research System with level III (i.e., the top rank granted by the National Council of Science and Technology, CONACYT). rnDr Castañeda has been part-time lecturer in different Mexican Universities (ITAM, UPAEP, BUAP, FLACSO, UDLPAP) and abroad (Universidad de Salamanca, Span; Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain; Texas Christian University, USA). Likewise, he has 34 published papers in scientific journals and book chapters; he is also the author of four books and has edited another one. In 2007, he received the u2018Professional Merit Awardu2019 granted by ITAM to their distinguished alumni. In 1995 obtained the u2018Latin-American Award Daniel Cosío Villegasu2019 granted by Fondo de Cultura Económica, who also gave him an honorific prize in 1997. In 2005 he received another honorific prize in the Award on Economic Research Maestro Jesús Silva-Herzog granted by the National University of Mexico (UNAM). Nowadays, Dr. Castañeda works on Complex Adaptive System with issues related to economic development, political economy and financial systems.rn
